Loss Of Followers Overnight!

Dear Readers,

I seem to have lost twenty followers overnight. As I don't really think twenty people have deleted me from their list of blogs all in one night, I can only assume it's due to the new Blogger policy of only allowing followers who sign in via their Google account. If you're reading this despite having lost me, can you please get a Google account? It's annoying, but can't be helped. Besides, I've found that Gmail is much better than other on line email services. There's less spam and it almost always goes straight into the spam folder. The only annoyance is the demand for your phone number - I understand the reason behind it, but it's an invasion of privacy, IMO. Still, if something goes wrong, hacking for example, you'd be glad.

If you prefer to get my posts by email, there is that option.

Cheers!
Sue

Very true, they do keep changing the rules, for no reason I can ever understand, and tell you it's because it will improve your experience, but never tell you how. Still. I've had this blog since about 2006 and don't want to scrap it. I dislike Wordpress intensely, it's way too complicated for me, and while I do have a Livejournal blog, it's really not meant for a general audience, just for other people who have Livejournals. So I will just have to abide by whatever rules Google comes up with, for now.

I've noticed a reduction of about 70 followers on my blog but I don't really mind because most of them don't engage anyway!

Well, you get more engagement than I do, anyway! I have a handful of regular commenters, among whom are you and miki - oh, miki, thanks for the Christmas card, which just arrived this week! :-)

The same thing just happened to me! I lost 22 followers. I think it's because Blogger is winnowing out blog accounts that are no longer active or where people have deleted their accounts. But in reality, the number of followers you have doesn't have much to do with the real people who visit you (on blog hops or whatever) or how many hits you get per month (which comes from SEO and keywords). And the same thing happened a few months go on FB - I suddenly lost a bunch of friends. Since I don't think I did anything to annoy anyone, I'm guessing FB is doing the same winnowing out thing.

You could be right, though they did say that as of now you have to be logged in to Google to follow. Anyway, it seems to be happening all over the place.
